Rehabilitation Stinks!

Okay, I know getting in shape is good for your body, mind and soul, but sometimes it just plain stinks! Thank goodness we have a exercise bike and weights at the house so I can work on this at home most of the time, but 45 minutes on the bike seems like forever! What happened to when I was 16 years old and could ride all day! Am I getting old? (Do not answer that!)

Its only a haircut....

Yea, and the Beatles were just another band from England! Who would have thought that the act of cutting a few strands of hair could cause so much turmoil!

We finally broke down and took Savannah for her first professional haircut this week! I say first professional haircut because the downhill bangs that her mother and I trimmed into her psyche do not count as a professional cut!

At J J's Kids Cuts there is a professional staff, a great play area, each station has a TV with a VCR where the kids can pick out a movie to watch and the chairs are jeeps, police cars, horses and other fun things to sit in! Needless to say, none of the distractions worked on our daughter (maybe it is that she is just too smart for all that!) and she cried until she lost her breath and then sobbed uncontrollably. It was almost too much to take so thank goodness the stylist had a heart of gold (and maybe some ear plugs!).

After the new dew was installed we tracked on over to Neo-China for some good food and to show off our little princess! Needless to say she was a hit with the staff and the Lo-Mien and Tofu was excellent!

Now, will haircut #2 be this difficult? Till then......

Another year, another surgery......

Yes, the old man has undergone the knife once again! Why I do this to myself I do not know, but I think that red two wheeled thing in the garage keeps me seeking the holy grail of knee surgeries! This time it was just a cleanup of a previous surgery, so no real damage was being repaired. Here are a couple of photos to show you what was going on:













What happened was that the cartilage that was replaced in the last surgery (2004) grew too much and started to impinge on my meniscus and thus caused the bones to rub a little. The pain sent me back to Duke for a consult and Dr. Toth and the staff at Duke Sports Medicine in Durham, NC have taken really good care of me! After the surgery the pain in the knee was gone and although I have a lot of getting in shape left to do, the leg feels better and I should be back on a bike in no time! (Sorry Mom!)
